Beauty is only an adjective

After the success of Hello, an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s One Night @ The Call Centre, Gul Panag will star in Straight, which is due to hit screens next month.

“Straight is a romantic comedy about a man who tries hard to fall in love,” she says. On her role, she says, “I play a caricature artist, hired by Vinay Pathak, the hero of the film, to decorate his hotel. The role is very interesting.”

In the movie, Vinay develops a fear that he might be gay. “It’s an unusual movie, with a sensible theme. But, it’s not a drive to create awareness amongst people about sexuality,” she clarifies.

Her recent avatar on small screen as the wife of Aamir Khan for an ad has got people talking about her chemistry with him. Ask her about the experience of sharing screen space with the Khan and she says, “Aamir is a thorough professional. You can’t relax on the sets, thinking that it’s just an ad. He works with the same dedication as he would for a movie. Initially, people were skeptical about our chemistry. But, together we worked wonders. I have paired up with him for a few more ads and I am really excited.”

Gul, being a former Miss India, is all praise for Parvathy Omanakuttan. “She has brought us laurels in the international arena. But, beauty is only an adjective and it’s subjective. A catwalk and a coy smile alone can’t bring us the gold medal. I hope winners and runners-up of such pageants work for the betterment of the society. I wish Parvathy good luck.”
Well said, Gul!
