When Anita Dongre opened her new store at The Gallery on MG Road on Friday, Delhi’s causerati had much to celebrate. The designer’s new Grassroot Spring-Summer collection, made in association with Shop for Change, has been created with fair trade organic cotton, and tries to create a harmony between fashion and sustainability. “I want the women who visit my stores to be surprised by a fresh style that is also eco-friendly,” said Dongre, as guests milled around the store, sipping champagne and munching on starters as they checked out the saris, dresses and shirts. Actor Gul Panag mouthed the platitudes: “I shop for change because I believe that just by being conscious consumers, we can make a change happen”. Dongre added that she designs for the “thinking woman”. “She’s well-read, and is aware of what is going on around the world. Eco-friendly fashion is the need of the hour,” the designer said. Amen!
